A Love Letter to the Woman Saving Herself for Marriage

I write to the young woman who fell short, but still desires to save herself for marriage. For the one staying pure, yet growing impatient and weary. The one who desires God’s best for her. The woman the Lord calls to a life of purity, abundance, true love, and virtue. Daughter, this letter is for you:

When I was 15, I made a vow to the Lord to remain sexually pure until marriage. I only knew a portion about the sacred gift of sex before marriage. I proudly wore a purity ring that read “true love waits” without fully understanding the purpose of it. In truth, making a vow and wearing that ring did not help me. I fell short and had been intimate. I continued to fall short. I thought that I could do this with my own strength. I was in for the rudest awakening. I held on to the idea of feeling love and deep connection with someone. That idea only led to extreme heartbreak and ungodly soul ties.

I want you to know and feel God’s acceptance. God is loving, gracious, and merciful, though I didn’t recognize it because of my own disobedience. After facing trials, I eventually learned how to triumph over worldly love. I understand that the truest love is made perfect in Christ.

A Letter to the Woman Saving Herself for Marriage

Beloved,

I see you. I admire you. I honor you. This path is challenging in a world that constantly promotes fornication, lust, divorce, and unnatural affections. I see you upholding your purity with your God-given strength. I see the tears you cry from the pain and patience you’ve stored for so long. I see how you cherish this gift that will one day be given to your kingdom spouse. I see you covered in the blood of Jesus. I see you fighting with the armor of God (Ephesians 6:11) and not giving in to what the enemy does to try and harm you.

I deeply admire you. I admire you for standing up for your God, yourself, your future husband, your future family. I admire your modesty in covering your heart and body with the Truth. I admire your modesty in not giving too much too soon. I admire your desire for something far greater than what the world can offer.

Oh, how I honor you. I honor you for the way you carry yourself. I honor you for the way you reflect your king, Christ. I honor you for seeking spiritual treasures instead of temporal pleasures. I honor you for valuing your identity in Christ. I honor you for treating your body as the most precious and sacred temple. I honor you for igniting the Holy Spirit within who helps you with this marvelous victory.

My love, your waiting is not in vain. In this season, the Lord is preparing you for a magnificent marriage, miraculous motherhood, and a fruitful family. All by His amazing grace.

In the past you may have dealt with disappointment in the lust you mistook for love. You grieved the Holy Spirit when you groaned from guilt. You idolized the idea of a man who could never fill that empty well. You sought love in the trenches and valleys in the shadow of death. You tried to shine your own light with your own might. You long for an intimacy that you may have never experienced nor witnessed in real life. You may have given parts of yourself in exchange for a false sense of security.

Darling, don’t you know that love is patient? (1 Corinthians 13:4) Don’t you know that God is not a man and does not lie? (Numbers 23:19) Christ forgives and sets you free from the bondage of filth and guilt. (Romans 8:21) Don’t you know that there is only One True Love who stretches out His hand extending love beyond our understanding? (Ephesians 3:19) The type of love that satisfies and pours immensely.

Don’t you know that Christ, the light of the world, is in YOU?  Shine brightly unapologetically! Watch how the Lord will bless you. Hold on to hope in the promise and desire that God placed on your heart. Immerse yourself with things from above where our King sits. (Colossians 3:2) Bathe yourself in the words of God who will never leave nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Rest in the remarkable remission that the Lord has established. Peace from the Prince who paid the price. Beautiful daughter of the Most High King, you are worth the wait.

You are

Wise.

Loving.

Strong.

Noble.

Passionate.

Nurturing.

Powerful.

Prayerful.

Diligent.

Forgiven.

Redeemed.

“I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that you not stir up or awaken love until it pleases.” -Song of Solomon 8:3)
