Dealing with Anxiety as a Christian Woman

Do you struggle with with wanting to be in control of life’s circumstances? Dealing with anxiety as a Christian woman can be challenging on every side.

You want everything to fall into place perfectly and comfortably, but because we’re in a fallen world, you feel defeated and anxious because you cannot manipulate what life throws at you.

When life happens, you question your purpose. You obsessively think of the opinions of others about you, and worse, you create unhelpful scenarios about your future, especially because you are afraid to lose what you think is precious.

You have sunken yourself into deep thoughts of worry and fear, day and night with no relief, leaving yourself exhausted, down, and sick.

Those anxious thoughts have kept you away from God’s truth.

Experts would say anxiety is a mental health disorder resulting from trauma, health condition, stress, your personality type, genetics, misuse of drugs, and alcohol, but anxiety is not only a mental health issue. It is also a spiritual issue.

Watch: Christians and Demonic Oppression

Anxiety can look like mistrust in God’s plans and ability. A lack of confidence that He will keep you, even though you do want to trust Him. Your fears have become become bigger than the God you serve. You must believe that God is who He says He is (Hebrews 11:6).

Anxiety is one of the pitfalls of being a human being. Know that it is one of the challenges that are common to man. We even see it in the Bible—specifically in the life of David, who endured fearful circumstances that would give us all sleepless nights.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. — 1 Corinthians 10:13

Anxiety has become a frequent topic of discussion in the church and many people are open about seeking help for it. That is the right thing to do because there is safety in the multitude of counselors (Proverbs 11:4).

But remember spiritual truths. You are a born again Christian, and a  woman of God. As His daughter, you must submit to the Holy Spirit who works in you and will transform you into the person God has called you to be. You will have fears in life, but refuse to be crippled by feelings of anxiety.

How Can a Christian Woman Overcome Anxiety?

1. Pray to God

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. – Philippians 4:6 NIV

God wants you to communicate with Him through prayer. The enemy doesn’t want believers to know that prayer is not just religion. It’s warfare! Combat the enemy’s strategy by casting all your burdens upon Jesus and declaring the truth about your situation because He can manage it.

Run towards God in your distress, not your emotions, for He cares about your life and He always listens.

Through prayer, you develop your faith in Him that His answer will always be for your good and never for your harm.

He is a Good Father, and peace is your portion.

2. Read God’s Word

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. – Psalm 94:19 NIV

God will comfort you through His Word.

By reading the Bible, you will know who God is, His promises, how He loves you,  and how to access His help. You receive hope for His deliverance, and a reason to cheer because victory is His.

His Word will give you the rest your soul longs for.

3. Change the Way You Think

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, His good, pleasing, and perfect will. – Romans 12:2 NIV

Everyone has a say on everything. But as a woman of God, set your mind on what God says than being influenced by the opinions of every other person in this world.

Reject any routines or bad habits that cause you to revert to worry and fear. Be still and rest that God is on your side. Replace fearful thoughts with victorious ones, one day at a time.

Changing the way you think will not only impact your life, but also the generations to come after you.

4. Practice self-care

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies. – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV

Jesus has a mission for you on this earth. You must take care of yourself to not let paralyzing thoughts keep you awake in the deep of the night, leaving your energy drained.

Improve your diet, exercise, set boundaries, take breaks, and even pamper yourself. A healthy body helps your mind. Self-care is not selfish, and it is necessary for your walk with God.

5. Find Help or People You can Talk To

Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up. – Proverbs 12:25 NIV

It is not shameful to seek help, whether from a therapist, a family member, or someone that you trust from the church. There is also no shame in seeking a deliverance minister or material if you cannot break free after trying so many things.

You cannot live life alone. You need people around to guide you with your feelings, thoughts, and how you can work out with your problems.

Since everyone is called to carry each other’s burdens, try opening up to see if you can get help from someone who can see you through life’s big and small obstacles.

Victory over Anxiety in Jesus

While anxiety may seem overwhelming, remember you are not alone. Many just like you have overcome it and you can too. You have victory through the blood of Jesus!

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. – Romans 8:37

God has already paid the ultimate price for your burdens, that is why He is worthy of your submission and praise (Colossians 3:16).

Give thanks to God, even in difficult situations. Always remember to praise Him for taking you this far. Soon enough, your trials will become your testimony and a distant memory.
