7 Bible Verses to Pray When You Are Angry

Anger is a response to displeasure. And as long as we are still in the flesh, we will get irritated by certain things. But welcoming or staying angry is not God’s intent for you, for the end of anger doesn’t deliver godly results. Here are seven (7) Bible verses to pray when you are angry to keep your peace with God.

1. James 1:19

“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.” — James 1:19.

James 1:19 reveals anger as a part of our emotions as humans. But we are not to be controlled by our emotions (including the tendency to get irritated) because human emotions do not end in righteousness.

So when you are displeased, pray for God to help you to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger.

You can also turn it into an affirmation. Confessing, “I am quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger.” repeatedly until it dominates your subconscious mind.

2. 1 Corinthians 13:7

“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” —1 Corinthians 13:7.

You are a child of love because you are a child of God, for God is love. When the tendency to get angry arises, pray that God will help you to allow His love in your spirit constraint you to bear all things, believe everything works for your good, and endure it all in patience and kindness.

You have the strength to love; allow it to rule you.

3. Galatians 5:16

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” —Galatians 5:16

Emotions are feelings. They are the life of the flesh. But as Christians, we are born of the Holy Spirit and must work as the Spirit does.

Do not give your flesh a chance to fulfill its lust. Pray and affirm, “I am a spirit. I walk in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit leads me. My flesh does not drive me.”

4. Romans 12:19

“Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.'” —Romans 12:19

Irritation yearns for retaliation, but we don’t have permission to repay evil for evil. Instead, we must let God play the law.

Are you hurt?

Prayerfully confess, “I don’t repay evil for evil. I forgive. I repay evil with good. I let God glorify Himself in every situation.”

5. Colossians 3:8

“But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.” —Colossians 3:8

One Bible verse to pray when you are angry is Colossians 3:8.

Displeasure always seeks expression, primarily through our words. You have to watch over your mouth and guide your tongue to not speak in heated moments.

Pray that God will help you to put off anger, wrath, malice, and blasphemy from your mouth.

6. Ephesians 4:31

“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.” —Ephesians 4:31

Ephesians 4:31 has a similar context to Colossians 3:8, with more emphasis on bitterness.

Prayerfully separate yourself from bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and slander, along with all malice.

7. Galatians 5:22-23

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” —Galatians 5:22-23

The Holy Spirit’s presence in your life cultivates love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Insist on this your divine reality.

Declare that you are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

It is vital we have our emotions under control, and praying these Bible verses when you are angry is an excellent way to dodge the dangers of anger.
