Marriage is one of life’s greatest blessings, but even the strongest marriages can face difficult seasons. Every household has its own challenges, whether they involve finances, personality differences, health, parenting, household responsibilities, cultural differences, differing values, or the pressures of everyday life.
When challenges test the strength of our households, God reminds us to remain in His presence. It is there that we find the strength we need to keep going. As Philippians 4:13 reminds us, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
Difficult seasons do not always come to destroy us. Sometimes we lose so that we know which parts of ourselves we must let go of for the sake of the family, and what must be won. Not all challenges break us; sometimes challenges come to strengthen the marriage, even making it stronger than before.
A Prayer for Your Marriage
Our Father in Heaven,
Thank You for Your presence in our family and marriage. We are grateful for the ways You have carried us and sustained us through every season. Today, we entrust our marriage into Your hands. You are the One who brought us together, and You alone are able to preserve and strengthen this bond.
Heavenly Father, in the difficult season we are facing, be present in our marriage and restore us. If there are wounds, Lord, heal them. Where there are misunderstandings, give us understanding. If there is disappointment, give us new hope, and if there are needs, provide for us.
If there is anger, fill our hearts with gentleness. Lord, if there is anxiety, calm our hearts and help us rest in Your presence.
Teach us not to be controlled by ego, pain, disappointment, bitterness, or lack. Help us speak to one another with love and wisdom and listen with patience and understanding. Teach us to forgive one another as You have forgiven us.
Give us wisdom as we make decisions about the future of our family. Strengthen our hearts and help us remain faithful to our marriage commitment and to Your will.
Holy Spirit, remind us that You are greater than every difficult season we face. Protect our marriage from anything that seeks to divide us. Renew our love for one another each day, and let our marriage be a testimony of Your goodness and faithfulness.
We believe You are at work in our marriage. We trust You with our relationship, our family, and our future.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray.
Hallelujah. Amen.
Scripture for Encouragement
Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 reminds us that “two are better than one” because when one falls, the other can help them up. Marriage gives us the opportunity to walk through life together, supporting and strengthening one another.
Ephesians 4:2–3 also calls us to live with humility, gentleness, patience, and love while making every effort to maintain unity and peace.
These Scriptures remind us that a healthy marriage is not built on never experiencing conflict or hardship. It is built through humility, forgiveness, patience, love, and a shared dependence on God.
Reflection
Difficult times in marriage do not mean that God has abandoned you. Often, it is in the hardest seasons that He shapes our character, deepens our love, and teaches us to depend more fully on Him.
A strong marriage is not one that never experiences difficult times. It is one that continues to seek God and walk according to His will through every season. A wife’s prayer carries the marriage through all seasons.
If your marriage is going through a difficult season today, bring it honestly before God. Pray for your husband, pray for yourself, and ask God to show you what you can surrender, change, forgive, or strengthen. You may not see the answer immediately, but you can trust the One who holds your marriage in His hands. God is still at work, even in the seasons you do not understand.
